Chapter 01 · Your Instagram content mix
Reels are one
part of the mix.
Consistent posting of carousels and static posts is the foundation. Reels add reach on top. You need all three — but the balance matters.
Most travel advisors get the ratio backwards.
If you only post reels, you'll get reach but no trust. People watch a great reel, glance at your profile, see nothing that proves you can actually plan a trip, and scroll on. If you only post carousels and static posts, you'll get trust but no reach — your beautiful expertise will be seen by the 312 people who already follow you.
The mix is what creates the compounding effect: reels bring new eyes, carousels convert those eyes into followers, posts keep the relationship warm between bigger pieces of content.
Your anchor · 2–3× per week
Carousels
The trust builder.
Save-worthy, educational, specific to your niche. This is where you demonstrate expertise and give people a reason to follow. Carousels get shared and saved — the two signals that matter most for reach over time. See your IG Playbook for the full framework.
Consistency · 1–2× per week
Posts
The presence signal.
Keeps your feed active and your audience warm between bigger pieces of content. Can be a quote, a moment, a thought, a destination shot. Lower effort — but shows up consistently. Consistency builds familiarity, and familiarity builds trust.
Reach driver · 1× per week (minimum)
Reels
New eyes.
This playbook. The job of a reel is to reach people who don't follow you yet. Not to sell. Not to explain your services. To make someone stop, watch, and follow.
The rule
One reel a week, minimum. Twenty minutes per reel, maximum. Beyond that — don't engineer it. The advisors who break through aren't posting once-a-week masterpieces. They're posting messy, often, and learning what works in public. If you film something on a Tuesday and it makes you laugh, post it Tuesday. Don't sit on it for a week trying to polish. Done is the unlock. Perfect is the trap.
If you're already posting consistently and your reach is flat, jump to the Troubleshooting Appendix — diagnosis before strategy.
